The Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate is the regulated qualification for care workers in England, taking over from the Care Certificate as the standard induction into adult social care. If you are working in a care home, supported living, domiciliary care or day services, this is the qualification your employer will be putting you through, and the mandatory units make up most of the written work.
What the qualification covers
The mandatory units build on the standards you will recognise from the Care Certificate:
- your role, duties and responsibilities as a care worker, and the values that underpin good care;
- duty of care, safeguarding adults, and responding to concerns;
- communication and person centred support;
- health, safety and infection control, including safe medication practice;
- handling information, privacy and dignity, and mental health and wellbeing.
What is in the pack
Exemplar answers for the mandatory units, written by people who have worked in care rather than people who have only written about it. The answers show how to evidence your knowledge and your workplace practice together, which is how this qualification is judged. You will see the level of detail expected for safeguarding scenarios, how to write about person centred practice using real examples, and how to handle the questions on medication and information handling that assessors look at most closely.
Who it suits
Care workers new to the sector working through their induction, and experienced staff formalising their practice with the regulated certificate. Either way, use the exemplars as a model and write from your own service, your own service users and your own routines.
How to use the answers well
The qualification is about what you actually do, so the strongest answers come from real incidents, real residents and real shifts. Read an exemplar, note how it links knowledge to practice, then write your version using your own setting. That is what gains credit, and it is what your assessor and quality assurer are looking for.
Help from a practitioner
If a unit is not making sense, an hour with a qualified care assessor usually sorts it. One to one Zoom tutorials run in 30 minute to 90 minute lengths. View tutor sessions or contact us.
Questions we are asked
Is this the same as the Care Certificate? No, it is the regulated qualification that has taken over from it, covering the same ground at Level 2 with formal assessment.
Do I need to be working in care? Yes. The mandatory units are assessed against your practice, so you need a workplace with service users.
Are the answers for the mandatory units only? Yes, and those are the units every candidate must complete, so they are where most people need the help.
