This award qualifies you to assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments that are not the workplace: classrooms, workshops, training centres and simulated settings. If your learners develop competence through taught courses rather than on the job, this is the assessor qualification that fits, and this pack covers the written and practical evidence it asks for.
What the qualification covers
There are two units. The first is the theory unit covering the principles and practices of assessment. The second is the practical unit: assessing vocational skills, knowledge and understanding, evidenced through real assessments carried out with real learners in a training environment.
What is in the pack
Exemplar answers for the theory unit, and worked examples of the practical evidence: assessment plans, question records, feedback records and assessment decisions written the way an experienced assessor writes them. Because the practical unit is judged on the quality of your records as much as your assessments, the pack spends time on the documents. You will see how to record a professional discussion, how to capture evidence from skills tests, and how to write decisions that stand up to internal quality assurance.
Who it suits
Trainers and tutors working in further education, private training providers and apprenticeship delivery teams. If you already hold the theory unit, the pack also helps you approach the practical unit with a clear idea of the standard before your first assessment.
Using the pack properly
The exemplars work best as a model. Read one, then plan your own assessment using your own learners, your own environment and your own evidence. Internal quality assurers know the difference between a genuine record and a copied one, and the credit is in your own practice.
Talk it through
If you would like an experienced assessor to look at your assessment plans or talk you through the unit requirements, we offer one to one Zoom tutorials from 30 minutes to 90 minutes. View tutor sessions or contact us.
Instant portal access: the pack is available to read and download in the TM Support portal for 14 days from the moment your order completes.
Questions we are asked
Do I need real learners to complete this? Yes. The practical unit requires genuine assessments carried out in a training or classroom environment, so you need access to learners.
How does this differ from the work environment award? The setting. This award covers assessment in taught or simulated environments; the work environment award covers competence demonstrated in real work.
Do the two together make CAVA? Yes, with the theory unit you then hold the full certificate, which is what most employers ask for.
14 days of portal access included
When your payment is complete you receive 14 days of access to the TM Support portal, where the resources for this qualification are waiting for you. You can read them on screen in the portal or download them to work through offline, whichever suits you best. Access starts the moment your order is confirmed, so you can get started straight away.
