The Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance qualifies you to quality assure assessment decisions and support a team of assessors. It is the qualification employers look for when appointing internal verifiers, and it combines written theory with real IQA work: sampling assessment records, observing practice and standardising decisions. This pack covers both halves.
What the qualification covers
Two units:
- Understanding the principles and practices of internally assuring the quality of assessment.
- Internally assuring the quality of assessment, the practical unit evidenced through real IQA activity.
What is in the pack
Exemplar written answers for the theory unit, and worked examples of the practical evidence: a sampling plan built around risk, IQA records that show what was sampled and why, observation notes on assessor practice, and standardisation records. The pack also includes sample feedback written to an assessor whose work needs improving, which is the part of IQA that people find hardest to evidence well.
Who it suits
Experienced assessors moving into quality assurance, and current IQAs who need the qualification to formalise the role they already do. If you have already completed the understanding unit as a standalone award, the pack will help you focus on the practical evidence.
How to use it
Use the exemplars as the shape of your own answers, then build everything around your own centre, your own assessors and your own learners. The practical unit asks for genuine activity, so the records must be yours. The pack shows you the level of detail that satisfies an external quality assurer.

Questions we are asked
What is the difference between this award and the leading certificate? The award qualifies you to quality assure assessment. The certificate adds responsibility for planning, allocating and monitoring the work of others.
How many assessors do I need access to? You need at least two assessors whose work you can sample, which is normally the case in any centre with a delivery team.
Does this replace the old verifier qualifications? Yes. The Level 4 award is the current qualification that took over from the previous internal verifier awards.
