Level 3 Award in Education and Training

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is the usual first step for anyone moving into teaching or training adults. Whether you are taking it at a college, through a training provider or online, the written assignments have a way of taking longer than the teaching itself. What the qualification covers

The award has three mandatory units:

• Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training.
• Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training.
• Understanding assessment in education and training.

The second unit includes the microteaching session, where you plan and deliver a short lesson to your peers or your tutor. It is the part most people worry about, and it is also the part that feeds many of the written questions.

Is this the qualification that replaced PTLLS? Yes. The Level 3 Award in Education and Training took over from PTLLS, and the content is very similar, so people moving across recognise the format.

Can I submit the exemplar answers as they are? No, and you would not want to. Assessors expect your own context and your own learners. Use the answers to see the expected depth and structure, then write yours.

Does the pack help with the microteach? Yes. It includes guidance on planning the session, choosing activities that show inclusive practice, and handling the feedback conversation afterwards.
