What the qualification covers
Two units: the theory unit on the principles and practices of assessment, and the practical unit on assessing occupational competence in the work environment, evidenced through real observations with real learners at work.
What is in the pack
Exemplar answers for the theory unit, plus worked examples of the practical evidence workplace assessing depends on: observation records that capture what actually happened, assessment plans agreed with the learner and their manager, and feedback records that show development as well as decisions. The pack covers gathering evidence beyond the observation itself, including work products, witness testimony and questioning, and explains when each is appropriate.
Who it suits
Workplace assessors in any sector: health and social care, construction, hospitality, logistics, business administration and beyond. If you are working towards the full CAVA certificate, this unit is one half of it, and the pack is written to support that route too.

Assessors lose marks for two things above all: records that read like fiction, and evidence that does not map to the criteria. Do I need access to learners in real workplaces? Yes. The practical unit is evidenced through genuine observations of people doing their actual work.
What if my learners rarely do assessable tasks? The pack covers planning assessments around the work as it happens, and the other evidence types, such as work products and witness testimony, that fill the gaps.
Can my manager be a witness? Yes, if they are competent in the area and can speak to what they observed. The pack shows how to record that properly.
